Familydays in Linz and surroundings
After about 420 kilometers it was time for us to have a break. Thus, we spent three days in Linz. We bought missing utilities. Afterwards, Katharina possessed again two pairs of cycling gloves and rain trousers, which should keep dry longer than only a quarter of an hour. Furthermore, we bought our new waterproof outdoor camera to provide you with many pictures in the future. We would be able to use our water tank thanks to the new mouthpiece. The old one had literally gone under the wheels.
But the real reason for our break were family reunions. On Saturday morning July 14th, Matthias sister Babi should arrive with her children at the airport in Linz to move back from England to Austria. We wanted to welcome them at the airport. Neither Babi nor the parents who helped to clear the house knew about it - it should be a surprise. But would it be a success? Somewhat careless, we thoughr after about 90 km daily in the last 3 days that we can make the 10 km to the airport left handed and dawdle around in the morning. So we started cycling with a tight time budget. In case we got lost we had to hurry up even more. Thus, the comfortable relaxing ride did not work out, rather we had to perform properly. As we approached the airport Matthias said: “Oh dear, the plane has already landed”. But as we got closer, Katharina gave the all-clear: “The passengers are just getting off. That’s going to work out.” Linz-Hörsching Airport is small and manageable. We parked Düsi right next to the entrance door and had already arrived in the reception area. Equipped with a welcome poster and camera, we stood there. Who was coming? Babi’s mother-in-law! We all looked a little surprised. Now we were a real reception committee. And the joy and surprise among the English was correspondingly great.
The next day the summer family birthday party of Katharina’s family took place with the grandparents in Walding. We enjoyed grilled food, funny conversations and cheating with our little niece. We also watched the goal-packed World Cup final. Many thanks to all of you for the great time together and the accommodation!
