Departure with obstacles and recovery in the Salzkammergut region

In Linz Matthias changed the old, worn out and dried out chain as recommended by our bicycle mechanic. So nothing should stand in the way of a perfect continuation … but oh shock, when we rolled off on Tuesday, it crunched terribly. We got scared and bang about our wreaths, the gears and the complete düsi. Thank God our guardian angel did not let us find the way to the Traunradweg, so that we did not cycle along the Traun through the city but landed in the center in front of a baker. While Katharina was getting some refreshment, Matthias extended the very tight chain by a double link. But now it should really run like new, we thought. But the chain now hung through and could be kicked even less than before. At a loss we sat on the asphalt and discussed how to proceed when our guardian angel became active again. A passing lady spoke to us: “You probably need a mechanic. If you push down the pedestrian zone and then turn left you will come to a bicycle shop.” We followed the recommendation and found probably the best bicycle mechanic of all Traun there. Despite understaffing due to holidays, he took his time and not only solved our problem in a few minutes, but also explained to us which screws to turn in order to adjust the position of the rear wheel to the chain length - obviously an expert for Hase bikes. Many, many thanks to Zweirad Sturm!

Meanwhile it had become 14.30. Now it was time to really step on the gas to cover the 90 km to Nussdorf at the Attersee. There we were allowed to spend the night in the holiday flat of Katharinas grandma. Thank you very much, grandma! We pedaled along quickly - at the end we shortened the cycle path over the main road. At 21.00 o’clock we rolled into Nussdorf. As usual in the Salzkammergut, allmost every restaurant had its kitchen close at 9 pm. We got lucky, the high end restaurant was opened and even served us a wonderful meal though we were sweaty and still in our bicycle clothes.

The next day we woke up late. During the cosy balcony breakfast with view on the lake we decided that this spot is so beautiful that we had to have a break day. We lazed around, tinkered with the thank-you cards of our wedding (which we would send out afterwarts ;-)). We tried hard to empty the fridge of grandmother as we were told to do, but it was a never ending task.
